Vintage Japanese Handwoven Rattan Tiger Sculpture – Mid-Century Shōwa-Era Wicker Art

Condition:
Good vintage condition with gentle age patina. Minor scuffs and light wear consistent with age. Structurally firm and intact.

Beautifully crafted vintage Japanese rattan tiger sculpture, dating to the Shōwa era (c. 1950s–1970s). Hand-woven from natural cane with detailed striping, expressive facial carving, glass eyes, and carved wooden teeth, this piece reflects Japan’s post-war mastery of natural-fiber craftsmanship.

Tigers hold symbolic importance in Japanese art—representing bravery, protection, and vitality—and such sculptures were often produced for export or as decorative guardians within the home.

A rare and impressive mid-century Japanese decorative art piece, perfect for collectors of Asian craft, bamboo/rattan sculpture, or symbolic animal art.
