Beni Ourain are arguably the most famous and also the most copied style of Moroccan rug on the market. But what is a Beni Ourain carpet? They are characterised by soft natural tones and a modern minimalist design featuring geometric shapes and lines. And in case you were wondering, the name Beni Ourain refers to a collection of Amazigh peoples in the Atlas Mountains east of Fes. Any rug coming from this region is considered a Beni Ourain, but watch out for fakes, due to the striking design and popularity of the Beni Ourain style - there are lots of copycats on the market.

What makes Beni Ourain rugs so special is their luxurious and understated elegance and natural palette. Crafted from pure sheep's wool, the Beni Ourain artists are notorious for being the highest quality weavers in the Atlas Mountains. These luxurious carpets are meticulously hand knotted using long strands of wool to create a dense soft pile that feels super plush and cozy underfoot. You’d be forgiven for thinking that Beni Ourain only come in white or cream because traditionally they were woven using natural undyed wool. But contemporary Beni Ourain rugs, like the ones in our collection, also feature beautiful tonal designs in soft pastel and earthy tones.
This Beni Ourain rug is absolutely divine. Its neutral warm color make for a simple feel but because the weaver has used different tones in the same color it gives it an amazing textural design. All our rugs are so much better in real life and this one is my absolute favourite, definitely a keeper.

MATERIAL
This Rug was handwoven in the Beni Ourain area in the middle Atlas mountain region of Morocco. Made from all natural fibers with wool coming from sheep in the local area.
A circular process from start to finish, the local community gather the sheep’s wool to process, dye and spin in the villages of the Beni Ourain regions making it ready for weaving.

This rug has been handmade by women from the Beni Ourain region in the middle Atlas mountains who have learnt techniques from their ancestors. They do their magic on the loom -literally- incorporating ancient symbols to deflect the evil eye and bring good luck to both the maker and rug in your home.

Yes. It’s handmade, bought through one of Aaron’s trusted suppliers and imported by him. Nothing here is mass produced.

How much is shipping outside Victoria?
Free in Victoria. Elsewhere in Australia it’s $15, $20 or $30 depending on size, and overseas $40, $60 or $85. Express is $15 more. Everything is insured and tracked. Outside Australia, any import tax is paid by the buyer.
Can I see it in person?
Yes. The shop is at 221 Gilbert Rd, Preston, open Thursday to Sunday, 10:30am to 6:30pm. Text Aaron first if you want this one put aside.
