Fiji Island Hand-Carved Ula Throwing War Club – 42cm – South Pacific Tribal Weapon
Condition:
Very good vintage condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. The wood shows an excellent rich patina and tight carving with no structural cracks or repairs. Natural variations and handling marks expected from traditional handmade items.
Description:
Authentic Fijian Ula (I’Ula) hand-carved wooden throwing club, traditionally used by Fijian warriors as both a close-combat weapon and a ceremonial symbol of status.
The club features a classic mace-style bulbous head, hand-carved from dense tropical hardwood (likely ironwood), with deep spiral fluting around the head and fine incised detail near the shaft. The lower handle is wrapped in a woven fibre binding in black and natural tones — a traditional method of reinforcement and decorative craftsmanship typical of mid-20th-century ceremonial reproductions.
These Ula clubs were historically carried as symbols of authority and prestige, and later became highly sought-after by collectors of Oceanic or Polynesian ethnographic art.
