Vintage Hand-Carved Devil Character Pipe – 14cm – Soviet Prison Art – Figural Design

Description: A striking vintage figural pipe featuring a devil-like character with an exaggerated long red tongue, carved beard, pointed teeth, and small horn accents. The bowl is sculpted from wood with dramatic, deeply carved contours, giving the piece a strong expressive presence. The stem is made from clear acrylic with embedded red, cream, and dark bands, creating a vibrant and unusual decorative finish.

This pipe is representative of USSR prisoner-made craft, produced circa the 1960s–1970s within correctional workshop settings. Character and caricature-style pipes of this type often emphasised exaggerated facial features and playful or grotesque themes, reflecting a blend of folk tradition and individual expression within institutional production environments. While originally functional, examples like this are now primarily collected for their visual impact and historical context.
