Vintage Hand-Carved “Wise Man” Long Stem Pipe – 34cm – Soviet Prison Art

Description: A highly unusual vintage long-stem character pipe featuring a hand-carved wise-man / mystic head forming the bowl, with striking facial detail, ornate beard texture, and jewelled accents set into the turban. The elongated stem is crafted in a peach-toned composite with a twisted profile and a banded decorative section near the curve, giving the piece a dramatic, theatrical silhouette.

This pipe is representative of USSR prisoner-made craft, produced circa the 1960s–1970s within correctional workshop settings. Figural pipes depicting mystic or “wise man” characters were often highly stylised, blending exoticised motifs with expressive carving and decorative embellishment. Long-stem examples such as this were intended to maximise visual impact and are now primarily collected as sculptural display pieces rather than functional smoking pipes.

At nearly 34 cm long, this is a strong display / collector’s piece combining folk-art character with bold mid-century styling.

A standout example for pipe collectors, eclectic décor lovers, or those drawn to unusual character carvings and expressive Cold War-era objects.
