Antique Continental Spelter Figure “Le Torrent” After Anfrie – Classical Youth Sculpture – c.1900

Description:

An expressive antique continental European figurative sculpture titled “Le Torrent”, after the work of Anfrie, depicting a youthful figure striding forward while carrying a vessel, symbolising motion, strength, and flowing water.

The sculpture is finely modelled in the late 19th to early 20th century academic style, with well-defined musculature, dynamic pose, and naturalistic drapery. It is mounted on an original turned wooden base with a fitted brass title plaque reading “LE TORRENT – Par Anfrie.”

The surface shows a richly aged dark patinated finish, consistent with spelter (white metal) sculptures produced in Germany / Central Europe around the turn of the century, often intended as decorative works for salons, studies, and bourgeois interiors.

A strong decorative antique with excellent sculptural presence and classical appeal.
