Vintage Hand-Carved Wood Character Pipe – 20cm – Soviet Prison Art – Dark-Wood Figural Bowl

Description: A vintage hand-carved wooden character pipe featuring a stylised dark face with bright red inset eyes, a full rounded beard, and layered carved hair. This expressive figural bowl displays exaggerated contours and strong facial features, giving the piece a striking personality and bold display presence.

This pipe is representative of USSR prisoner-made craft, produced circa the 1960s–1970s within correctional workshop settings. Character pipes of this type often combined simplified forms with bold detailing, reflecting both traditional folk carving influences and individual expression within institutional production environments. Today, such pieces are collected primarily for their visual impact and historical context.

The long curved stem is smoothly carved from dark-finished wood and includes a small decorative collar band at the bowl base, contributing to the pipe’s balanced proportions and unified appearance.
