Vintage Black Panther Ceramic Sculpture with Snake Motif – Mid-20th Century  

Description

Striking vintage ceramic sculpture depicting a reclining black panther, produced in the mid-20th century as a bold decorative statement piece. The panther is modelled with elongated, muscular proportions and finished in a high-gloss black glaze that accentuates the sculptural contours of the body.  

A distinctive and unusual feature of this piece is the sculpted snake coiled around the panther’s neck, forming an integrated collar motif. This detail introduces a strong symbolic element, often associated with power, protection, and danger, and elevates the sculpture beyond standard animal décor of the period.  

The panther’s intense amber glass eyes, smooth flowing form, and confident pose reflect mid-century design sensibilities, where animal figures were rendered with both stylisation and presence. The hollow ceramic construction and underside openings are consistent with decorative studio or production ceramics of the era.
