Vintage Ceramic Devil-Head Pipe – 19.5cm – Soviet Prison Art Figural Pipe

Description: A striking vintage ceramic figural pipe featuring a stylised devil’s head forming the bowl. Finished in a warm caramel-brown glaze, the piece shows exaggerated facial features—arched brows, pointed nose, smirking mouth, and a single sculpted horn. The long curved stem is formed from the same ceramic body and finished in matching glaze, giving the entire pipe a unified sculptural presence.

This example is representative of USSR prisoner-made ceramic work, produced circa the 1960s–1970s within correctional workshop settings. Figural and character pipes of this type were commonly created as decorative or novelty objects, reflecting a blend of humour, caricature, and personal expression within the constraints of available materials and formal production environments. Today, these pieces are collected primarily for their sculptural and historical interest.
