Vintage Hand-Carved Wood & Resin Character Pipe – 21cm – Soviet Prison Art – Multi-Coloured Stacked Stem

Description: A distinctive vintage character pipe featuring a smooth, stylised carved-wood face forming the bowl, complete with pointed ears, rounded cheeks, and simplified sculptural features. The stem is the standout element: a long, multi-coloured stacked-resin design with alternating rings of teal, amber, white, black, red, and translucent bands.

This pipe is representative of USSR prisoner-made craft, produced circa the 1960s–1970s within correctional workshop environments. Such pieces commonly combined hand-carved wooden bowls with colourful stacked resin stems, reflecting both individual expression and the materials available within institutional production settings. While originally intended as functional smoking pipes, examples like this are now best appreciated as collectible or decorative objects.

The bowl includes a metal inner lining with perforation holes, indicating it was manufactured for functional use, though it is now best suited as a display or collector piece. The overall form has strong visual presence, with bold colour contrast and clean, stylised carving.

Features: • Era: c. 1960s–1970s • Origin: USSR (Soviet Union), prisoner-made craft • Length: approx. 21 cm • Stylised carved-wood figural bowl with pointed features • Colourful stacked resin stem with striped patterning • Metal-lined bowl with perforated insert • Collectible display pipe (not tested for use)

Construction / Materials: • Bowl: hand-carved hardwood, smooth polished finish • Stem: stacked resin/acrylic rings, multi-coloured • Bowl interior: metal liner with vented holes • Additional details: small carved horns, sculpted ears
