Vintage Hand-Carved Bearded Face Smoking Pipe – 32cm – Soviet Prison Art – Layered Agate-Style Stem

Description: A distinctive vintage character pipe featuring a deeply carved bearded face forming the bowl, paired with a long, sculptural agate-look stem. The bowl is crafted with expressive facial features — pronounced brows, textured beard carving, and inset faux-gemstone eyes — giving the piece a dramatic and theatrical presence. The long layered stem displays a striped, banded pattern reminiscent of carved agate or early composite materials, contributing to its strong visual impact.

This pipe is representative of USSR prisoner-made craft, produced circa the 1960s–1970s within correctional workshop settings. Larger figural pipes of this type often emphasised expressive faces and elaborate stems, combining hand-worked bowls with moulded or laminated composite materials. Such pieces are now primarily collected for their sculptural quality, visual drama, and Cold War historical context.

This example sits at the intersection of decorative folk sculpture and collectible smoking pipes, with strong display presence and a bold, characterful form.
