An exceptionally rare post-war Japanese figural ceramic vessel depicting a stylised devil / oni character, produced during the immediate post-World War II export period. This striking piece is modelled in the form of a grinning horned figure, with expressive facial detailing, exaggerated ears, and a sharply defined beard, finished in warm cream, amber, and black glazed tones.
The vessel is fully functional, featuring an integrated handle and open mouth at the top, suggesting use as a creamer, small jug, or novelty serving piece, though pieces of this type were often produced primarily as collectible figural ceramics rather than for regular table use.
The underside bears a stamped “OCCUPIED JAPAN” mark, dating production to the Allied occupation period circa 1947–1952. Figural ceramics from this era were produced in relatively small quantities and were largely exported, with many designs surviving today only in very limited numbers. Devil and oni-themed pieces are particularly scarce compared to animal or character mugs.
