Description:

A vintage Japanese oni (demon) face bell, crafted from unglazed clay and designed as a hanging protective charm. This style of oni-suzu was commonly produced as shrine souvenirs and folk-art talismans during the mid-20th century in Japan, known for their expressive faces and hand-carved details.

The bell is made from two clay halves joined at the centre, with a clay rattle inside that creates a soft, earthy sound when shaken. It features painted accents on the eyes and fangs, and retains its original natural-fibre hanging cord. The inscription on the back identifies it as a shrine-related piece.

A striking example of traditional Japanese folk craftsmanship.
