#2027, USSR 1989What is a war rug?
War rugs tell the history of the war in Afghanistan. Since around 1979, when Soviet troops arrived, Afghan weavers have been knotting the things they saw into their rugs: tanks, helicopters, Kalashnikovs, hand grenades and maps of the country.
After 9/11 and the invasion of Afghanistan, new images appeared. The twin towers, fighter jets and even predator drones. More recent rugs show the fall of Kabul in 2021, and some weavers now make rugs about Ukraine and Palestine.
Each one is made by hand, on a loom, by a family who's been weaving for generations. No two are the same, and every rug on this page is the only one of its kind.

Are these the real thing?
Yes. Every rug here is genuine and handmade, bought through Aaron’s trusted suppliers and imported by him. Nothing is mass produced or reproduced.
How do I know the size?
Every rug is measured and the size is written on tape on the back. It’s in the listing too, and the last photo of every rug is that tag.
Why do some say 100% to PCRF?
All of the money from every Palestine rug goes to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. On every other sale, 5% does. The receipts are in the highlights on our Instagram.
Can I hang one on the wall?
Yes, and plenty of people do. The small rugs, around 80 x 60 cm, are the easiest. Text Aaron if you’d like a hand working out how.
How is it sent?
With Australia Post, insured and tracked to anywhere in the world. Free anywhere in Victoria.
What if it doesn’t suit my room?
Send it back within 30 days for a full refund. You cover the return postage.
